Keystone Builders was built on years of hands-on experience across two states before planting roots in South Dakota. Our founder started his career framing custom homes for a builder in eastern Oregon, where he learned the fundamentals of residential construction from the ground up. That foundation set the stage for everything that followed.
From Oregon, the path led to Montana, where he joined a high-end custom home builder and spent years refining his craft on true custom builds. Working at that level pushed his skills well beyond the basics. Tight tolerances, demanding clients, and complex designs became the norm, not the exception.
In early 2022, the family relocated to South Dakota when his wife took a contract with a local hospital. Rather than find another employer, he made the call to go out on his own. One of his first projects was a nearly 9,000-square-foot custom home, an ambitious start for a one-man operation still building a team. He finished it, and that experience shaped the direction of Keystone Builders going forward.
After completing that build, the focus shifted to exterior remodels and improvements. Growing a skilled, reliable crew takes time, and exterior work, from high-end composite decks and railings to roofing, siding, windows, doors, soffit, fascia, gutters, garages, and framing additions, is exactly where that team is being developed. The goal is a fully capable crew ready to move back into townhomes, spec homes, and eventually custom builds again.
